Better, Faster, Cheaper! (Processes of Improvement in Any Endeavour)
The Goal In Any Endeavour:
I’ve always maintained, that in anything you do, try to make it:
- Better, or
- Faster, or
- Cheaper
Here is a checklist you can follow (inspired by Patrick Bet David):
- Identify a pocess (list the steps).
- Eliminate/cheapen/speed-up one or more of the steps
- Test and refine
- Implement
The entire process is recusory and on-going.
How do you know what to eliminate?
That’s easy. That comes from:
- Wide consultation,
- Record keeping,
- The application of reason and common sense
Wide Consultation
People will only be happy to tell you about their problems, or any problems for that matter.
Do you know someone who complains all the time? For anything and everything? I want you to come to a new-found appreciation of their creativity. They are able to analyse the current situation and rationalize where/how things could be better. Where does this inspiration come from? Who knows! But they are worth gold.
Record Keeping
If you can’t track something then you can’t improve it. Data is critical to this entire process.
